In Mexico City

We are now in Mexico City. A huge city. We are lucky to be living with Marlem, af friend of us, and she is helping us around in the city.

We have been going to the different museums and sights. The cathredral in the center is beautiful! In the Palacia National we saw the murals from painter Diego Rivera, also really beautiful. Today we are going to the Frida Kahlo meseum in the nice part district of Coyoacan.

Yesterday we ate really Mexican food, fish with cactus! And it was great!

Well, we are enjoying ourselves, but it's a bit sad when we think of the few days we have left, only 3. And then it's back to cold Europe with snow and ... :-(

We have some pictures, but we will upload them in some days, so stay tuned.

Pictures from San Cristobal og Oaxaca

Here are the photos:

Enjoy.

Oaxaca - try to pronounce that!

It's done "Wah-ha-ka". And this is the city we are in now. Oaxaca is the capital in the Oaxaca province, if anybody wanted to find it on the map.

We arrived yesterday morning with a nightbus from San Cristóbal. The bus wasn't full, but it was impossible to get any sleep because eventhough we were driving down mountains the driver thought that he was in a Formula 1 race and didn't break for nothing!

We arrived, alive but tired. We found a hostel that had been recommend to us and before anything else we powernapped a bit.

After napping we went for a small walk in the city. It's really a beautiful place! Many big churches, nice plazas, tons of streetwalk cafées and, most important, SUN, something that we missed a lot in San Cristóbal. We didn't walk a lot, though, because besides being tired we were suffering from the after effects of our horseback riding trip 3 days ago. After sitting on a horse for 4 hours every single bone in our body is just hurting!

But today it's better and in a short while we will go out and explore the city.

So long...

San Cristóbal de las Casas

Hello everybody

We are now in San Cristóbal after a 18 hours busride from Tulum. Buses are great here. Almost like an airplane.

San Cristóbal is very different from Tulum. It's high up in the mountains, 2000 meters above the sea, and therefore a completely different climate. Yesterday, when we arrived it was raining and REALLY cold. Maybe it felt even colder because we hadn't slept much in the bus. Today it's still cold, but when the sun is out, which it has been most of the day, it's no problem to wear T-Shirts. We went to a church today and to a coffee museum. Both very nice. San Cristóbal also has a huge market, which we will not leave unnoticed :-)

We'll try to get some pictures up later on.

Have fun!

Viva Mexico

We are now in Tulum, Mexico, which is definetely not a bad place to be!

We arrived late yesterday after a whole day traveling up from Belize. We hitchhiked through most of Belize. The first lift was with a truck, which was just hell. The driver, Elvis, was nice, but his truck was crap. The smoke was coming in from the engine to the cabin where we were sitting. Almost chocked to death. To make matters worse, Elvis used the break a bit too much and at one pedestrian bump, where you have to slow down, he didn't have enough breakpressure and couldn't stop the truck. So to avoid hitting the truch infront of him he turned over to the other lane, but here there was a jeep coming and we smashed right into the side of it. It was happening very slow, but a big truck like that makes a lot of damage. Luckily nobody was hurt.

We continued with other cars and a bus to the border and late yesterday we arrived in Tulum, with another bus.

Today we didn't do much else than going to the beach. It seems like a very nice place here. We probably stay for some days and then continue into the country.

We put up some new pictures, so take a look at them.

All for now.

Banana Belize

Hi everybody

Sorry for the long break, but we didn't have much access to the Internet the last couple of days.

Anyways, we are in Belize and we are great! We had to do a big de-tour coming up from Honduras. We wanted to sail over, but hurricane Beta made that impossible, so instead of a 2 hour sail from Honduras, we had to do a 2 days busride up through Guatemala. But we made it.

We are in southern Belize, close to Mango Creek. We know people here who do bananafarming, so for the last week we have been at one of these farms following the workers and learning about how bananas are grown, even helping sometimes. I tell you, it's a lot of work!

Now we are staying at a guest house close to their company offices, and will go on a couple of day trips the following days. Belize is rich of natur experiences. Tomorrow we are going to a natur-park known for it's many jaguars.

No pictures yet, because the internet here is a bit slow, but we'll do that later.

All the best...
